The first Swiss casinos were opened in 2002/2003. In 2012, the casinos in Neuchâtel & Zurich were added.
At 250 gaming tables & 4500 slot machines are offered. 18% of gross gaming revenues derived from the table games, 82% from the gaming machines.
The casino industry employs about 2000 people.
Yearly, the casinos have over 5 million admissions. Every admission must show valid identification to ensure the patron is of legal age and not, for any reason, barred from gambling. This ensures social and youth protection for all.
Casino players are monitored to identify problem gambling. Patrons at risk will be suspended from entry to all Swiss casinos. Every year 3000 people are barred from gambling in casinos. In total, there are now over 46,000 suspensions in force.

Swiss Casinos have paid CHF 7 billion casino taxes to social security and to the cantons. Thus, they make a significant contribution to the common good.
The contribution of casinos to the common good is fully comparable with the contributions from the lottery companies Swisslos and Loterie Romande for charitable, sporting and cultural purposes.
Corporate income tax as well! Casinos pay double after deduction of the casino tax on the gross gaming revenue, the casinos costs are covered (staff costs, operating costs, depreciation etc). The remaining income is subject to corporate income tax.
The casinos are thus taxed twice: on one hand by the casino tax and on the other by the corporate income tax.
